Does an "eye-for-an-eye" really make sense?
By Shaman
It is, tragically, a fairly popular belief that when it comes to responding to a wrongdoing, humans should adhere to the old Hebrew doctrine of "an eye for an eye." We first learn this childish behavior on the playground: "Hey, he hit you. Hit him b… Continue
The writer Mark Davis is correct: "...of the nearly 70 million people who voted to make Barack Obama president, a sizeable portion did so because they were sick of war."
Now they're sick of Barack. (And one can only only wonder what the Nobel Committee is thinking on the day after Obama announces a massive military escalation in Afghanistan.)
Of course, G.W. Bush was clumsy, arrogant, clamoring and evangelical in his pledge to a global war-without-end. In stark contrast, Obama is smooth and ef… Continue
Food for thought on Thanksgiving 2009:
What would each day be like if we started out by taking inventory and then giving thanks for it?
What would happen if we had to take all of the world's suffering (war, earthquake, famine, AIDS, blindness) and equally distribute this suffering so that each person on t… Continue
When I read the article below I couldn't help but recall that there was an ugly period in the United States--not too long ago--when city officials across the South refused to install fire hydrants in black neighborhoods. There was a time when white firefighters used high-pressure water hoses against c… Continue

I never knew…
I never knew
What was going on in God’s mind
So I asked him to open up my third eye, so I could see
And He allowed me
To look out the window
So I pierced pass the pane
And I
Can see clearly now
I was depressed
So I had a little talk with Jesus and I
Told him all about my struggles
Like..
Rev 21: 4 God, You said You would wipe all my tears away
But how come I drown in them every single Mother’s Day?
In II Kings 20:5 you said that you have heard my prayer, and
You would will heal me… Continue

Practicing to Be a God
Namaste
The God in me salutes the God in you.
I am
That prodigal Son
Striving to be The Perfect One
That perfect ashlar
Searching for my Eastern Star
I am
The One who
Shines Light
And
Nourishes the Earth.
I strive
To be a
Superstar
Like The Prince
Of Peace
Because
I am practicing to be a God
So while you are swinging and missing with the fist
I charismatically advance the Light defended by the intellect mist
And while you continue to swing just to catch one
I am spraying… Continue

Dr. Cornel West sends a letter of support to the Brothers of Prince Hall Masonry, wherever dispersed around the globe. Dr. West is a highly respected lecturer and professor at his Alma-mater Princeton University. He can also be seen frequently on Bill Maher's HBO weekly special. Outspoken but usually on point as he continues to talk about the struggles for equality and justice. Please click on link below.
As a Past Master of this august body of men and women, I salute Dr. Cornel West and hope t… Continue
Most of us have heard by now of the famous pagan origins of Easter named for the Germanic goddess Eostre.
And many of us have heard those countless springtime versions of resurrection stories of Jesus, Heru, Krishna, Dionysus, Mithras and many other legendary gods.
As one story has it, the Persian deity Mithras had a virgin birth (born from a rock), and he was an offspring of the Sun (which, back then, people often viewed as god). Long before Jesus turned water into wine at a wedding, Mithras h… Continue

I'm afraid Jason's right. Iverson hasn't won a damn thing since his high school days. He's a self absorbed, me first has been. I always admired his talent, but as Jason says it's simply never going to happen. Perhaps he's a product of his upbringing, but that was his upbringing, get over it. If it's one thing black folks like to do is blame everybody else for their failings. You have idiots still talking about slavery for the failures of today. Racism, white man this, white man that, get over an… Continue

Three years ago, in April of 2006, I collaborated with the President of the National Medical Association to write an indepth report on the health status of black men in the United States. When I finally completed our research for the article, I vividly recall grappling with a title that could somehow capture the sheer tragedy of it all.
Finally, it hit me.
At the midnight hour, I decided to compare the life expectancy of black men with that of other men across the world, and so I set out to ca… Continue

When Gertrude Baines was born, in Shellman, Georgia, Grover Cleveland was president. The U.S. flag had only 44 stars. Today, this daughter of a slave is the oldest living person on the planet, according to the rigorous validation process of the Guinness Book of Records.
Yesterday, on April 6, 2009, Ms. Baines celebrated her 115th birthday (see video) at Western Convalescent Hospital in Los Angeles. She now exceeds the average overall life… Continue
What's the deal with Kim Jong-il? Why does he continue to do stupid shit like firing missiles and claiming to be successfully launching satellites.
He treats his people like dirt. What are we supposed to do?
I have a solution, you have a beef with a world leader, have it out in the gym bare-knuckled, winner settles the dispute. I'm in favour of Obama going over to North Korea with Don King handling the gate receipts and have it out with this midget. That's right, he should go over there and cl… Continue

Researchers who study the links between human behavior and health have given laughter a few very hilarious names, like “inner jogging” and “respiratory gymnastics.” Indeed, scientists--with all of their esoteric labels and clever instruments--are finally learning what holistic health practitioners and ancient traditional healers have taught for literally thousands of years: laughter is therapeutic.
Research studies are now showing that laughter strengthens the immune system and reduces the stre… Continue

There are still a bunch of wild-eyed Republicans claiming that Obama's new cigarette tax is yet another example of a "socialist president." or, at best, a "tax-and-spend liberal." Such absurdities!
These puritan capitalists hate whenever the government "interferes" with the marketplace--even when it makes sense. Sure, obviously you don't want government to discourage the benefits of innovation and the efficiencies of ethical production and distribution. Who among us would be willing to i… Continue
Touch me
Not with your hands
But with your heart
The way a hummingbird touches a flower
Kiss me
Not with you lips
But with you goodness
As a snowflake kisses the tongue of a child
Make me laugh
Not with a joke
But with a tickle
Like the craft of virtuous hands to a belly
Miss me
Not with your eyes
But with your soul
The way that I miss you when we are no longer connected
Feel me? Continue

I was not born to shoot
I was trained to shoot
Did not get no boots...
But all God's children need traveling shoes
I fought in every man's war
On every man's tour
On every man's shore
Til' I could fight no more
And when I died...
I died alone
In a foreign country
I died unknown
AND WHEN I DIED...
I died alone
In my own damxed country
I died two-toned
Proud but hurt Black and red
Uniform bloody, from where I bled
MY EYES BULGING UPWARD!!!
FROM BEING HUNG IN THE STREET!!!
Black skin raw, from bein… Continue
